Students´ Meeting in Komotini, Greece

12.06.2022

Our international Erasmus+ KA229 project "Sustainable Development: Possible Solutions" started almost two years ago but due to covid all the meetings were postponed. Finally, all partner schools could meet in the music school in Komotini in Greece in the beginning of May. Each country was represented by 4 - 6 students. All participants promised to accomodate Greek students when the meeting will be held in their school. Our school was represented by Anna, Žofie, Viktor and Jan.

Our group flew from Vienna to Thessaloniki on Saturday, 30 April. The next day, we travelled with participants from Finland, Portugal and France to Komotini where the hosting families were waiting. The hosting school prepared interested program with focus on renewable sources of energy.

Monday: in the morning we took part in outdoor activities where we used our own strength, gravity and a river current to move (trekking, archery, raft, zip line) at the Nestos River. In the afternoon teams took samples of water from the Lake Vistonida and analyzed its quality.

Tuesday: we got to know better during ice-breaking games in the gym, learnt a traditional Greek dance Hasaposervikos, presented our countries, toured the school and took part in the opening ceremony.

Wednesday: we visited the environmental centre in Maronia and the wind power station park in the Maronia Mountains. Unfortunatelly there was a power failure and the turbines were not operating. We learnt how the technicians can safely climb the ladder which is inside the turbine pole.

Thursday: All students participated in building power station models. Each model was using renewable source of energy such as wind, solar panels or water. After that we finished analyzing our water samples and tried to play traditional Greek music instruments.

Friday: we watched last country presentations, learnt more traditional dances and filled evaluation forms. In the evening, a ceremonial dinner was prepared in a restaurant with a magnificant view of the valley. Our team prepared a short performance and sang Czech songs. The meeting was closed by a disco.

On Saturday, all teams took a bus to Thessaloniki airport.
